Introduction to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases
The course is implemented within the project:
Voices for Change: Strengthening HIV Knowledge and Support for Migrant Women.
The aim of the project is to strengthen education and awareness about HIV among Ukrainian migrant women in the Czech Republic and to support a non-discriminatory approach to HIV-related services.
The course is primarily intended for social workers and professionals working in social services who encounter people arriving in the Czech Republic from other countries in their work. These individuals, especially women, often face barriers in accessing healthcare, including language difficulties, stigmatization, lack of information, and legal uncertainty, which limits their opportunities for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment. They may also be at increased risk of sexual exploitation, which makes access to reliable information and services essential.
The aim of the course is to provide information about blood-borne infectious diseases (HIV, HCV, HBV), taking into account the target group of clients. It will introduce possibilities for cooperation within counselling services, with an emphasis on working with client motivation for the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Course participants will be equipped with essential information about diagnostic and treatment options, as well as ways to facilitate further necessary care for clients.

Course content:
• Introduction to the topic. Basic overview and good practice in the Czech Republic and abroad. Examples of good practice programs in the Czech Republic and internationally.
• Infectious diseases. Overview of information and updates in the field of the most common infectious diseases.
• Treatment and referral to care, linking clients to additional services. Case studies from participants.
• Course conclusion.
